Sneak Preview of Tyger's Sporting Kilt Buckle and Belt
Lately I have done a little fishing with my kilt on. Nothing very demanding (no waders!) or out of the ordinary. But I sure didn't like 2 things: the sporran/strap, and my standard belts and buckles. Nothing really against my belt/buckles if one is wearing a tie; however, sans tie I fet a little ridiculous. I need something a little less formal when ties are not part of the dress.
So, I started to think about those casual comfortable web belts........and I figure that I can either make, or brass- or copper-clad, a steel clam-lock buckle and put it on a web belt. Of course, it will have to be embellished with a sterling silver Tarpon (or permit, bonefish, redfish, trout, salmon, or bass)! Busy at Tyger Forge, I will be!
Here is my conceptual design, please feel free to comment:

Very cool idea. How wide a web belt are you planning to use?
I'd personally shoot for the largest web you can get - I like a wide belt on a kilt. Anything less than 2" seems a bit delicate. I know 2" webbing is available, I use it for my technical diving backplate. I believe you can get up to about 3" in most surplus/farm stores.

I like the design. I think the "Salmon of Wisdom" would be a fun buckle for fishing.

Yes it would. Here is my Salmon of Knowledge, brass on copper with glass, 3.5 inches diameter:

All the wide webbing that I find is very slick, and it doesn't have much texture so it will not grip well. If anyone knows of a source of 2.5 inch wide cotton or cotton/synthetic blend web that has a pebble/weave texture, please let me know.

Wow! They are both beautiful !
I never know what to get my husband for his birthday. He likes fishing, but he has no interest in wearing a kilt.
In addition to buckles for kilts, do you make buckles that would work with belts for jeans or slacks?
A fish buckle by Tyger would be the perfect gift.

Yes, and it is a continuation of that in which I am seeking in this project.

How about a tiger fish on a Tyger buckle?
