Lt.-Col. Macpherson and Clan Chattan Diaspora
On my way through Ontario, Canada this morning, I saw a sign for Macpherson house, and took a little side trip as the Clan Chattan Confederation diaspora to the Americas interests me greatly. MacBean is usually considered part of that Confederation.
The lovely and restored house was built by Allan Macpherson, son of Lt.-Col. Donald Macpherson who fought on the Crown side in the American War of Independence. I thought the house and family rather grand and rich for the time. I also noticed how easily they dominated the community. Then there was mention of a Cluny House built elsewhere. It seemed likely that here was a son of the a Cluny Macpherson (a Clan Chief). Lucky hunch as it appears that Donald was the son of Evan Macpherson, Chief, who was exiled to France, but managed to maintain his lands from The MacKintosh (who was never paid for them or had some other disagreement).
I have photos and web history links if there are any Macpherson history buffs around
