Carmunnock Highland Games 20.06.10
At last, I've actually made it to a Highland Games. These took place in a small village on the southside of Glasgow. The Chieftan's welcome was by Mr Boyd Tunnock CBE (yes of the Tunnocks tea cake fame)
Two styles of music graced the pitch. Firstly The St. Francis Pipe Band and Clann an Drumma
Highland dancing was provided by The Kilbride Dancers
You can view the events in my album with this link

Looks like a great time, I cant wait till the next time I get a chance to visit Scotland and attend another highland game. Such an unforgettable country with excellent hospitable people. Maybe next summer I will be able to make it back.

Excellent pics. Looks like a good wee games and quite well attended despite not being listed on the games calendar.
Did any of you manage to get to the Glasgow Games at Hughenden Sports Fields last Saturday (26th June)? I spoke to someone yesterday who was there and said it was good games but poorly attended by the general public.
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

For those of you interested in the contestants they were:
Gregor Edmunds, Danny Carlin, Neil Elliott, Sebastian Wenta, Lucasz Wenta, Scott Rider, Stefan Petursson and Hans Lorkema. The Carmunnock highland games is a non profit making day for the games committee whose goal is to be able to continue providing entertainment for everyone in the surrounding areas.
The events for the pro's were putting the 16lb stone, throwing the 28lb for distance, throwing 56lb for height, tossing the caber and pitching the sheaf.

I'm heading to the Luss games this Saturday on the banks of Loch Lomond.
these games are fairly small but always well attended, especially if the weather is good.
Chieftain of the games is the Calquhoun, chief of the clan ( Sir Malcolm Rory Calquhoun of Luss, 9th Baronet of Luss) who presides over the day' events.
A great wee day out
