Rex,
You have correctly identified my intent. I've travelled the US extensively and know where I would want to go, or would recommend for others to go. But I'm trying to find out where a European would be interested in going.
It's nice to know what American citizens think should be seen by visitors to the US, and I'm not discounting their recommendations, but that isn't necessarily the same as what a European would want to actually see.

And to further this point: can one European speak for all regarding what they would want to see? I think in this instance, it's really a matter of an individuals interests, not his/her nationality.

Very true and I brought this point up with my professor. I, for example, am more interested in military or social history, but I find more than one or two visits to cathedrals and art museums to be a bit boring. However, we did not receive any guidance as to what our European tourists would be specifically interested in seeing. While our professor didn't state it, I suspect she wants to see if we submit a list of cities, etc, based on our own bias and interests.
She also gave us a particular nationality but I've deliberately obscured it as it is not applicable at this stage of the assignment.

My wife and I like to visit all the National Parks we can on our vacations. In doing so we have met several Europeans that have been on holiday here. Many of them have had RVs/campers/caravans (pick your version) and are driving around to get the "native" feel. My parents live outside of Rocky Mountain National Park where we have me people from almost every European country.
The nice thing about a vacation tour in the US using an RV is that you could go to historic sites/national parks/senic areas/recreational areas all combined. For example: fly into New York City, take a train to Washington, DC, rent an RV and travel through Virginia and the Carolinas on the way to Atlanta, GA. Fly from there to Kansas City, MO and rent another RV, drive through the mountains to Utah, up through Montana and Idaho to Seattle and then take US 1 south through California. Then head back East through Nevada, Arizona, Texas and along the Gulf Coast ending up in Miami, Florida where you would take the plane home. Along the way you will get history, shopping, sceanry, recreational areas and about anything you would want.
This could also be broken up into smaller bits for multiple trips, enlarged to include the Great Lakes or changed to travel by railroad instead of RV and plane.
Just my 2 cents.

Although I posted a brief synopsis of my previous trips to the U.S. I guess that being an Aussie doesn't qualify me for what a European might want to see. I'll just remain Downunder.
