    Thanks Todd

I didn't notice until I saw your post that I posted the incorrect date for the 43rd in Germany. It was a circa 1743 not 1943.

I went back & corrected it

I have done some kilted riding. I normally use English tack, as it is more comfortable with my riding boots.

Out here, and back home, we have all the scrub, barbwire, and mesquite, so the chaps would be a good idea.
Yep, same here. Even a normal everyday trail ride entails riding through mesquite, cedar, and other brush. I can just see myself ruining a perfectly good kilt and pair of hose trying to do it kilted. I've always worn blue jeans and boots at a minimum while riding, and that's not likely to change unless it's just for a photo op.

Been there, done that-on a bet, believe it or not. I am a traditional great-kilt wearer, and was conned into an equestrian event whilst wearing. The steed was an Irish Connemara, saddled in fox style with a divided jump saddle-For those unfamilier, that would be an english style, low cantle saddle with 2 way flexure (side/side and some front/back)-Rider is intended to grip 90% with the knees, and carrys the responsibility to keep themselves in the saddle-as opposed to a Western American seat, which is more like a chair. The stirrups were too short, which meant my knees were up to high, I managed. Two things to remember-Timing, and posting. There is no way to sit on the doubled wool/pleats-too slick. At the same time, there is no real way of using the front lap as a buffer, and be able to spread legs enough around the horse's barrel to grip. If you want relief, it's in the seat angle-back straight, hips forward, knees together, elbows down. The worst part is getting off-no easy way of doing that.

OK, well, it took a little longer than I intended, but I did get pics of me riding kilted! This is Tristan, a Percheron, that I'm riding bareback in my Utilikilt Workman. Everything seems out of proportion, eh? No, I'm not a dwarf. He's just a really, really big horse.

And yes, mounting and dismounting was as I expected... revealing. When riding him bareback, I have to stand on a picnic table to get on, which isn't too bad. But getting down is pretty much an exercise in swinging one leg over his back and sliding down. Heh, my kilt rode up in the process and I pretty much dragged my soft parts all the way down his side on my way down. Not to mention the "full moon" effect for spectators. My wife got quite a giggle out of it.

Great Pics - thanks. Never tried riding in a UK but with wool its comfy for me.

Will post my recent riding kilted pic here too. Another big horse - though not as big as Tristan, her name is Ma Bell.

    Come on, who else??

I sometimes ride kilted but on a machanical steed a BMW R1200GS. I have never had a photo taken but got two marriage proposals while riding home last cold Burns night.
