So do we have enough people and should we set a cut-off date for new arrivals?
I assume you want 4 yards. I said I want 8 so we just need one more person who wants four.

Actually, I'll only need 3. I have a couple of thread counts that I think will land between 9" - 9½". That would give many alternating pleats and only use 3 yards. 45" hips should use about 3½ yards and even a gentleman of substance, 50" around would only need 4 yards to get 40 pleats. Those are ⅝" reveal pleats that are 2" deep from double width yards, if my math is right. Those NS Highlanders are pretty smart about their kilts. All this brings the cost down to about $85 for 6 yards and $100 for 7 yards of cloth only. Things are different for pleating to the sett when a slim man might still want the full 8 yards.
I guess I can say I'm definitely preferring the larger sett now. Thanks for the suggestion Gabe.
As for a cut off time, I don't feel we need to make one at this point, certainly not until we get another participant.

So four kilts is all one needs to get their best price. This should be good news to anyone interested in any custom order.
I just checked into this. 18.70GBP is their wholesale trade price for DW fabric. Retail price for those of us who aren't in the business is ~30GBP, still a pretty good deal.
Cordially,
David

I wonder why I haven't found this information anywhere?

If David's information is correct (and why wouldn't it be) we'll do that.

Cordially,

David I just tried to send you a PM regarding tartan and your box is full. Clear some messages and I'll send it later.
Sorry for the minijack X

For the edification of both of us currently involved as well as anyone following along with interest;
Peter was kind enough to send along the relevant colours in his expert opinion so that I might compare with the Strathmore interpretation and I have found that Strathmore's red is too 'rusty' for my taste and have decided to swap it for a much better scarlet which fits very well with the rest of the colour scheme. Thank-you again, Peter.
After much humming and hawing I am going with the 9" sett size in a thread count of my own devising.
(and very attractive it is if I do say so myself )
There's still time to jump in for anyone on the fence or just discovering the thread. I'm gathering my coppers and will be calling Dalgliesh to place the order in a few weeks.

Not at all, Brooke. It's all sweet. I'm having all my fancies tickled at once. My clan tartan in the colours and thread count of my choosing and in the best cloth in the world. I'm having my cake and eating it too so to speak. All I have to do now is decide on who will sew it.

Well, my step father is Clan Anderson, FOB from Glasgow so I'll be looking keenly at that one soon. It should make a nice contrast to Clanranald.
Marton Mills is currently sold out of their 16oz MacDonald of Clanranald Muted so in the mean time I've ordered from them some medium weight MacDonald of Clanranald Ancient, Isle of Skye and County Roscommon for my son and two nieces for xmas gifts. They will be the first kilts I sew. Wish me luck!

Looks good in Wilsons' colours, as does the Red Anderson.
