I prefer boots for that sort of thing.

I think they only come in black and white. I wear black with the black boots but have used Rite Dye to create a few other colors using the white ones. There may be other threads on the site concerning the use of dye.

As for comments on sandals, well if you can wear them go for it. For some reason I can not bring myself to wear open toe shoes

Should have known better than to mention sneakers.

Must add it to my list of things it's just not worth bringing up around here! Not a big deal, I was a little cranky that night and I forgot that some of our membership finds the most ubiquitous footwear in America so plebian.

All I wanted to say, is while boots certainly have their place, I find the pairs I own (at least the ones that are presentable) a bit too warm for my comfort as general wear in the Texas heat.

You're more than welcome to wear whatever makes you happiest. I don't wear trainers for three main reasons:

1) When I do, I feel like Jerry Seinfeld (ie white sneakers and dark trousers)

2) I refuse to buy multiple pairs of $$$ sneakers. The pair I work out in become bio-hazards and are unfit for civilized company (or, in fact, anything living). This would necessitate another pair for actual life.

3) If I'm not kilted and it's warm (>50*f), I'm wearing sandals. A good pair of sandals can last me 4-5 years. Trainers seem to burn out in a season. Since a good pair of sandals costs as much as a decent pair of sneakers ($100), I'm making out like a bandit by NOT wearing sneakers.

I must agree somewhat with Jock on this one, if you’re going to wear hose I think they look much better pulled up and looking sharp. That being said I do enjoy wearing boots even when it’s warm, so like Mike I go for a boot sock as opposed to wool hose and they look just fine with a bit of a scrunch sitting just above the top of the boot. I have found that the Thorlo boot socks are very comfy, not so hot and come in a good array of colors.

I am definitely NOT the Kilt Police here. When I'm going out and want to look well put together then its good hose--pulled up with garter ties and black oxfords or a similar shoe. If I'm bashing about with friends and going to the pub or similar more relaxed place, then I'm the guy in boots or my trusty Navy boonies--with yes--my socks 'scrunched' if I feel like it.

Don't mean to offend anyone here, but I KNOW how to dress properly for certain occasions, from jacket and tie, dress sporran etc., but if the situation calls for a more relaxed attire, I have no problems feeling just as comfortable wearing my kilts in a more relaxed manner. Just my 2 bits. I'm a man. I dress myself. Someday, with a bit of help from some of the dandies here, I may even sport a black braemar or PC!

I try not to get too hung up on things. Its a kilt. Wear it and enjoy yourself.
