messed up knee
IT's not as bad as Mister DetroitPete's but this is a royal PITA. It hurts like the dickens when I throw, and there's significant loss of strength.
Nine days to Enumclaw. A month to the family backpacking trip. If this messes up the backpacking trip, there will be hell to pay with the Luminous Joan.
I'm doing nothing but basic knee rehab work in the gym until then, and maybe some hammer winds. This is really frustrating. At least my back is better. The eleven days off I just gave it while on vacation helped a lot.

Bad luck Alan. My knee was giving me all sorts of problems for weeks before we flew to the UK this year - not good considering the walking we were planning. Crawled in bed the first night there and I heard it make a loud pop... the darn thing quit hurting and worked like a charm!
The moral to the story, miracles do happen.

Sorry to hear about your knee, Alan. I hope it heals up quickly.
I still sometimes have issues with mine, but then it was more severe, sliding 20 feet down the street with a Harley-Davidson on top of me!
(...that was almost 24 years ago!!).

Get thee to a physical therapist. I blew out my ACL 18 months ago and had to have it replaced. The PT people did a great job of getting the knee back in shape. I hated them for the pain but at the same time loved them for what they were doing. I can now hike and bike with little or no pain. The saga continues as I try to get it back to 100%. I know how you feel when you are limited in what you can do, BUT it will get better. Think positive!

When I had this issue before, I lucked out and had a session with Cori (who works for Wendy) who's one of the personal trainers at my gym here at Stanford. Cori suggested several exercises for knee rehab, one of which was easy lunges onto a bosu, with light weights in my hands.
OK, so I did those on Tuesday. OWWWW...ow ow ow ow ow. I had diddly strength in the right knee to push back off the bosu, andit hurt!. I did 'em as best I could, even though they hurt. Then I did a mess hamstring curls with very light weight and knee extensions with...**groan** fifteen pounds. FIFTEEN pounds.
OK, well, I'm not in there to impress the babes, I'm sitting on that machine to get my knee ready for Enumclaw so I refuse to be embarrassed by that fifteen pounds.
I did that again yesterday and last night I gave the medial muscles and tendons around the right knee a good, hard, long rubdown with Ben Gay. This morning....next to no pain and I can push off the knee again. It's not 100%, nowhere near it, but it is MUCH better.
I will rest it this weekend (going to my 35th high school reunion) and then get in another two rehab sessions next week. I'll practice caber, WOB and sheaf next Tuesday (no twisting forces on the knee) and we'll see how it goes next Sunday in Washington.

Alan--I JUST saw this! WOW--take it easy. Looks like you have knowledgeable people around you, but I'd suggest an MRI if you haven't yet. This way you know what you're looking at as far as injury and rehab. Holy cow brother, bad spot of luck, but go easy on it and remember: Ice is your friend!

Knee is coming along. I walked on it a couple of hours on Saturday and it was sore, but OK and no loss of strength. Monday I was back on the bosu and I could push off again. Yesterday was even better, I could push off pretty hard, maybe 2/3 rds the oomph I've got in the left knee..
I will rest it today, my gym time will be upper body today and a few bosu lunges because I'm curious. I throw easy tomorrow, sheaf, WOB, caber but no twisting as in stone or weights. Fingers crossed for Sunday, but I have hopes it'll be OK.

Good luck and take it easy.

hope it improves. That can be a real pain. I use to have knee problems but it hasn't bothered me in years.
