To quote my favorite movie, My Favorite Year, "You don't cut funny."

THat being said, the joke itself isn't funny, but jokes about kilts could be funny. You would have to go for the less obvious. Who hasn't heard the "Nice Skirt" joke.

It reminds me often of the joke I always get when people see my dogs. I have Great Danes. Everyone says, "You got a saddle for those things?" I have a hell of a sense of humor, but that joke wasn't funny the first hundred times, the next hundred are just irritating. The last time I had a guy say that line to me about my dogs, I told him that I use the same saddle he uses for his wife. Now, that to me was funny, but the guy did not approve.

I say if you can come up with a kilt joke that is both funny, and original in nature you got a hit. If you make reference to the "Nice Skirt" joke, most people will look at you as just being unoriginal.

Now, you could always steal from George Carlin with his bit about man purses and direct it toward sporrans. This could be very funny, but I am not going to write your material for you either.

There are plenty of Scots families who have fallen out, permanently, for less! Again, I kid you not.
As a Glaswegian and a kilt wearer I agree with Jock, Don't do it!!!!. Believe me at a Glasgow wedding some-one will take the whole matter out of context, be offended and you'll end up with a disaster and maybe a real scary situation!! If I was a guest at the wedding wearing my clan/family tartan, I'd feel insulted and would'nt be a happy bunny!!

It would be clear that it was meant in humour as other than an occasion like this, there would be no chance I would wear one.

I was thinking something along the lines of "look at us here in these skirts with handbags, its a good job we've got a knife in our socks to make us look masculine"
Surely you are having a laugh?

I'm not going to offer any advice for the OP, but I will say that when I compare his joke to the other jokes offered by some, I found them much funnier than the OP's. You guys must be a hoot in person!

    Likewise with me!

...I almost choked when I read that "junior high" bit.

Kilt and skirt jokes are tired and worn out and most often ignorant. Think of something positive to say as there are many complimentary things that can be said.

    #1 Make them laugh.
    #2 Then make them blush.
#3 Finish by making them proud.

Don't !@$# up #1 by saying something stupid, uber-lame, potentially insulting, or obviously borrowed. You may receive wall-to-wall counseling as a result.
