Strange but true. I had a thistle plant growing between the paving stones in my driveway this summer. No others that I could see in the neighborhood. Just that one. It was so pretty I just let it grow and bloom. As the blooms were fading, I cut it out this last weekend. Too many small children passed it by. Could it be that a seed drifted over from Scotland to Germany? The prevailing winds are right. It will be interesting to see if it comes back. Thanks for posting your picture. Tom
Entirely appropriate!

We used to call the thistle seeds 'angels' when we were children - 50 years ago in South Yorkshire. It is really beautiful to see the seeds rising from a patch of thistles in a light breeze on a warm afternoon. Anne the Pleater :ootd:
And how do you know that we aren't being cultivated by the thistles?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose… Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I'd love to have a thistle or two in the garden, but every time I think the one coming up is a keeper, it turns into some deformed variant or hostile weed. Haven't yet had a really nice one (like the picture) show up. Lucky you! <sigh>
The area I live in has an abundance of thistles all in full bloom.
