I voted "cancel." In fact, I would go so far as to post a caution about the kiltmaker in question. Sure, there could be circumstances in that person's life you don't know about, but in that case that person owes you an explanation.
EPITAPH: Decades from now, no one will know what my bank balance looked like, it won't matter to anyone what kind of car I drove, nor will anyone care what sort of house I lived in. But the world will be a different place, because I did something so mind bafflingly eccentric that my ruins have become a tourist attraction.

This sounds like a situation where, if geography permits, a strongly-worded letter demanding relief and threatening a small-claims court claim might be effective. At least in the United States, them taking your money creates a contractual obligation that could be easily backed up by numerous sections in the UCC and contract law. I'm not a lawyer and this is not professional legal advice, but I WOULD consider taking a legal avenue at this point.

Could it be. . .Yelp reviews of California-based kiltmaker? One of the young men in our clan gave her a deposit at the 2007 Vista Games. At the 2009 games she promised his kilt in 6 weeks. She wasn't at the 2010 games. . . her new husband is evidently trying to make things right but his Yelp post with contact info was removed for some reason. If this is the same kiltmaker, you might try to reach him for relief of some sort. If it's another kiltmaker, well, I'm in the "cancel" camp as well.

I would cancel...that is ridiculous. I waited...four or six months, for a hand-sewn tank for which cloth had to be woven and sent from overseas (I think it was four). If someone's backlog is going more than a year for a hand-sewn tank, they need to stop taking orders...at best, it's a poor business decision.

I have not voted yet as I do not know the whole circumstances.
I have been waiting almost a year and a half for a kilt, which I paid in full when I ordered. At first I was very patient as I knew that the kilt maker had other problems. Lately I've been getting rather impatient and bombarding her with e-mails which she never answers yet I am still optimistic of receiving the kilt as I see that she continues to receive good feedback from other customers (though some have commented on the very long wait for their goods)/

Pull the plug G. There are plenty of talented kilt makers on the board and life is too short to wait that long for a kilt.

Ridiculous. Cancel. If you're out enough money to make it worthwhile, sue.

Why are we witholding the names of these "slow" kiltmakers from the board???
That's one of the key features of this kilt board - warning others...it is commonly done. Not like they are undeserving of exposure. Failure to warn just creates more victims for these folks and allows them to scam us...yes scam...just no exucse for these delays...none.
One more reason to do business with a well established full time kiltmaker that you have direct contact with.

Ron, I think I mentioned to you previously in a pm about the problems I was having with this lady from your home state.
OK lets name, but hopefully not shame, as hopefully they will still come good with the kilts.
When I reviewed my Paisley tartan kilt someone on x-marks suggested tongue in cheek that I might get a Paisley pattern one as well. Astrid Olafsen of Sillikilts from the Sonoran region of Arizona had Paisley pattern on her website and she agreed to build me one of her Sillikilts in Paisley pattern fabric as a fun kilt. I paid her in full in early 2009 and also sent her the shipping costs a few days later when she told me the kilt was almost ready.
Both payments were by Paypal so it is way too late now to cancel the payment as they only allow 45 days. She did write to me around Christmas time explaining the personal problems she was experiencing and apologising for the delay. I offered her a further $40 payable on receipt of the kilt to incentivise her to complete it. I told her that when I received the finished item it would be reviewed on various kilt fora and could be good publicity for her. Despite sending repeated e-mails throughout this year I have heard nothing further. I do know that she is still making clothes as she has recently received good feedback on Etsy where she sells Sillikilts and other items under the name Runzwithscissors. I know that Astrid has posted occasionally on various kilt fora so if you read this Astrid please let us have an explanation.

I too ordered a silly kilt from Astrid, sent a money order. I tried numerous times to contact her. NOTHING It has been over 2 years. I do not expect it to ever show.
