Tintin: The Black Island
So...I grew up reading Herge's Tintin books...in French and English...and several years ago bought several of the hardback collections. I haven't looked at them in about three years, and recently I've been doing a lot of housecleaning--to a degree that it feels like I'm moving back in to my own house--and came across the collections.
Flipping through, I found this one! I had completely forgotten our hero kilts up for this number .
...Originally published in 1956.
Tintin ends up kilted after a plane crash, I believe...taken in by some locals, one of whom states "you'll find everything you need in the next room," and IIRC in the following panel our hero emerges kilted .
The kilt in question goes for a boat ride, a spelunking trip, a couple of gunfights, a (one-sided) fight with a gorilla, and so on.
I noticed...knife-pleated to the stripe, outer apron buckling on the right, and he even drew the fringes on the edge of the outer apron . Three tassels on a leather sporran, regular pair of shoes, and a tam...kilt just above the knee, socks not too high...great attention to detail, very well done! Editing...come to think of it, I don't recall the buckles being shown...they're covered by the sweater. Also note...this will make at least Jock happy...it doesn't exactly "match" but it all works.
Like all of Herge's "Tintin" books, the illustrations are all works of art:
Enjoy !
Oh...and...

I started reading Tintin in 1956 and have them in French, English, and Portuguese. They are all much tattered as friends and relations have all read them too. Tintin in a kilt? I'd forgotten. I'll have to reread them all again!

Do a bit of a google search and you'll find several versions of TinTin kilted as a wood or resin figure....no articulated action figure yet but we can but hope...

When I worked in downtown Ottawa, I found out that there was a whole industry around hand-crafted action figures featuring characters from French language comics. Beautiful things in their way. Articulated? I'm not sure- they were a little expensive to play with. Anyway, one TinTin I always wanted to read was 'Au pays des soviets' ("In The Land Of The Soviets." I couldn't find it as a kid, think it was effectively banned in French Canada, and when it reappeared I was too dignified, ie too scared of looking like a kid, to buy a copy. Now of course I will run out and buy it, and the Black Island one too.

Between the two colour versions, the later one shows the pleats reversed - possibly due to copying the image used for printing and forgetting it is reversed, but there are no other obvious reversals...
