Interview with Sir William Alan Macpherson of Cluny and Blairgowrie

Greetings all,

The below link will take you to a unique interview with Roddy Martine, and the 27th-hereditary Chief of Clann Mhuirich, the Clan Macpherson, Sir William Alan Macpherson of Cluny and Blairgowrie, TD. I have also posted various photos of Cluny and I. I only just returned from the annual Clan Macpherson gathering and rally, which takes place on traditional Clan Macpherson lands in Badenoch-specifically around the Inverness-shire towns of Newtonmore, Kingussie, and Laggan. There, I reunited with my beloved Chief and absolutely adore the light-hearted and almost comical conversations that I have with him-he is quite the raconteur!

It hasn't been too terribly long since returning home from Scotland, however, I already miss Badenoch, Cluny, and my extended Macpherson "cousins" dreadfully. I am extremely honoured to call myself a Macpherson clansman; a staunch supporter of the clan, and a loyal follower of my Chief. I have met Cluny many times, and I always look forward to his annual luncheon held the Wednesday after the Clan Macpherson gathering (held the first weekend in August), at his home, Newton Castle, in beautiful Blairgowrie in Perthshire. Cluny truly is a "first among equals" and is ever so the complete Highland gentleman, of true Celtic descent. Enjoy the interview.

What is the silver badge that Cluny is wearing on his left lapel? It's rather small for me to clearly make out, but it appears to be a very buxom woman holding a sword aloft in her dexter hand?

I believe that 'buxom woman' is, in fact, a cat... could be wrong, though - maybe he changes out his lapel pin from time to time to see if anyone notices!

You are all more than welcome. Yes, the link has brief interviews with other clan Chiefs to include the Lord Macdonald, the Duke of Argyll, Chief of the Clan Broun, the Duke of Rothsey's address to the clans and kin assembled, etc. It is a very interesting website and it is rather superb to hear and see several Chiefs speak about their respected clans and the clan system in general.

The badge that Cluny is wearing is the badge of Na Dionadairean Clann Mhuirich, "The Guardians of the Clan Macpherson", of which Cluny, myself, and many other members of the Clan Macpherson have earned the right to wear. The badge, and its heraldry, which pertains solely to the Clan Macpherson Association and not to any one individual in particular, has been approved for wear by those clansmen and clanswomen who have been awarded the badge in recognition of their tireless, diligent, and continued support to the Clan Macpherson Museum and House, located in Newtonmore, Inverness-shire, as well to all business relevant to the Clan Macpherson Association. The badge is authorized for wear in lieu of an Armiger or Clansman's badge, if the wearer should so choose. I have posted close-up photos of the badge below, as well as two links explaining the Guradian badge in detail.

Thanks for posting the link. Very interesting, indeed. As I listened to many of the clan chiefs, I noticed something interesting...almost all of them did not have that heavy Scottish accent but, instead, sounded English. Is it just my ear or did anyone else catch this?

I did notice that his accent was much more "airy" than I expected. By the way Kyle, those are great pictures.

A mixture of English prep schools, English Public(meaning private!) schools, English universities, Sandhurst,the British Army and working in London to keep the Scottish estate viable has a tendency to water down(British understatement in action here) the Scots accent.
