"So, young man, what do you do when you're not standing around in your suit sampling Scottish whiskies?"

"Well, sir, I stand around in my kilt sampling Scottish whiskies."

"Well, upon my soul! I suppose that next you'll be telling me that you play the bagpipes as well..."

I came into this discussion at odd junctures, and had no advice to give, but I found the wisdom handed out to be most useful (thanks to all involved).

Jim, while you did not kit out the ladies in that picture, it is worth mentioning that the one in the tartan outfit looks stunning, but the one in blue is also is in a kilt-ish colour: it is almost identical to Duke of Kent.
And I presume you made up all three Scottish kilts as well as the Irish National.

Mike, I agree on the color of the second lady's dress (on my monitor). Yes, I made all four kilts. It's been a few years, but I believe I also made an Argyllshire (Campbell of Cawdor) kilt for their boss in addition to the one shown. The colors represented Johnny Walker labels, black, red, blue and green..... at least that was the sales line.

So Monday night I went to the tasting with their current buyer, Ben. It went VERY well. It was basically an informal "let's-size-him-up" preinterview with the company. They deal in only single-cask Scotch that they import themselves. After the tasting, Ben and I went out for a few more drams which concluded with a round at my apartment, cranking Battlefield Band from my stereo, and talking about how Celtic FC can't possibly be as bad this year as they were last year. Interview is tomorrow morning and I'm feeling very confident. Clothing choice for tomorrow is a pinstripe suit (thank you, MacMillan!) and my Gordon tie.

Well that's the first hurdle successfully negotiated, well done. I am sure you don't need some boring old duffer from Scotland to hand out even more advice, but you are going to get some any way! Put your brain into gear before opening your mouth and don't mumble! If you don't quite understand the question, then ask them to repeat it and if you genuinely don't know the answer---------then say so. Good luck laddie.

Good advice! I have a job interview with the American Civil Liberties Union on Monday, myself. In the phone interview, the fact that I'm in the Renaissance Scots came out, and the HR lady asked if I had a kilt. I of course told her that I wear them almost all the time, and she asked if I was wearing one to my interview. I said no, and she told me that I really should! So I'm going to. Let you all know how it goes come Monday.
