I enjoyed Magnus Magnusson's book.
You might also be interested in, How the Scots Invented the Modern World: the true story of how western Europe's poorest nation created our world and everything in it, by Arthur Herman (New York: Crown Publishers/Random House, 2001).
In trying to follow discussions on the forum, I have looked up many subjects of Scottish history in, The Oxford Companion to Scottish History, edited by Michael Lynch (New York: OUP, Oxford Paperback Reference, 2007).
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
