I have that wee book on tartans, I do suppose it's as good as anything for giving an idea of how it was done from the 20's to 50's, and even today, not that much has changed! (provided we don't get too carried away with all the 'Jackobite' illustrations, with sword and targe and such, or even the omni-present pipe for that matter!)
Thank you for bringing up the tartan books, I will go and look at mine again!

PS, In the above illustrations, I appreciate the fact that care was taken, as even the flashes are in the right place, not merely "on the outside of the hose"!

Wonderful wee book, I own a copy myself and adore the colour plates. I tend to like the conservative look of Highland dress in the early 19th-century and into the 1950's.

Nice photos. I just got my 1st custom dress sporran from L&M which was made like the older type of dress sporrans.
