This subject is very dear to my heart. Not many of you know what I do other than name drop of places I am visiting through work. With this post, I am coming out of the closest...so to speak.

    http://mybestfit.com

Having worked for my company since 2000 starting with drafting custom-drafted sewing patterns and then branching out to bodyscanning, clothing sizes have become irrelevant to me. Sizes are arbitrary numbers assigned to garments by the manufacturers. And, the sizes themselves are loosely based on the industry standard that was created during the 1940's which was updated in the 1970's. This is further complicated because the fit of those sizes are based on the fit model of the style or line that the manufacturer is using.

Currently, the bodyscanner at the King of Prussia Mall is providing fit information for womens jeans, but we'll be adding mens jeans within the month and I can tell you that it's hard work in adding any line of jeans to our inventory. We not only work from the manufacturers specifications when we can, but we physically measure each jean at 10 key areas to confirm grading between sizes and actual body measurements. You wouldn't believe the enormous difference in sizing between brands and between styles within the same brand.

Anyway, my recommendation to anyone purchasing clothing, is to disregard the size on the label. If it fits, it fits. If it doesn't? Don't buy it. Also, come visit the mybestfit kiosk at the KOP Mall just outside of Philadelphia. If you go next week, I'll be back onsite and can visit with you!

What really bugs me about jeans sizes is not so much that the waist measurement is wrong, but that the manufacturers lie about the type of fit.
I am old-fashioned, and like to wear my trousers around my waist, not my hips. But time and again I find that so-called waist fit jeans are in fact hipsters, and I refuse to buy them.
Consequently I do not currently have a presentable pair of jeans.
For years I had a slight bulge in my tum, but following a major surgery two years ago I have managed to stay slim. I can even slide out of my chinos without unbuttoning them!
Needless to say I cannot wait to own a kilt, and eventually to dispense with trousers as completely as is reasonably possible.
    Regards,
    Mike
