Just wanted to get some opinions as to what the best Scotch was for the money. Thanks, XMarkers!

Give Jon, Mark, and Robbo's "The Smokey Peaty One" a try.

If this is a question of inexpensive but reasonably good...
...Speyburn has been quite adequate and is usually available at bargain prices in my neighborhood. Interesting how several of my friends have formed the same opinion independently.
Bear in mind that I would never try to pass myself off as an afficianado of the whisky but I have a bottle of it in the pantry and tend to have a little taste while I'm busy cooking dinner evenings 'cause I relish the flavor.
Best

Glenmorangie...even their least expensive bottle is very good for an entry-level or well-versed scotch drinker.

There are some questions in the universe that are unanswerable by mere mortals. Yours is one of these.
The other is asked by one's female significant other and goes like this. "Does this (insert name of clothing article here) make me look fat?"
There are too many regional styles (Islay, Highland, Speyside, etc.) from too many distillers to come up with a single recommendation for anyone's palate.
That being said I like all of these.
Lagavulin 16 yo
Scapa 14 yo
Poit Dhubh
McLellands Islay
Glenfiddich 12 yo
Glenfiddich Special Reserve 12 yo
Glenfiddich Caoran Reserve 12 yo
Cragganmore 12 yo
The Macallan Fine Oak 15 yo
The Macallan Select Oak
The Macallan Elegancia 12 yo
Ancnoc 12 yo
Highland Park 15 yo
Té Bheag
Glenfiddich 15 yo
Dalwhinnie 15 yo
My recommendations?
*Te Bheag is cheap and drinks like a much more expensive dram.
*Find a buddy with a decent whisky cupboard who is willing to provide a tasting education.
*Find a local Scotch Whisky club or society that you can join.
*Take a trip to The Dam Pub and see how many of their 513 varieties you can try and actually like.
*Drink lots of whisky and keep a notebook.

For low level price (below $50 for single malt), high quality stuff:
Single Malt
Old Pulteny, Highland Park, Laprhroaig.
Blends
Black Bottle, White Horse

I like Cragganmore and Dalwhinnie for taste and price. YMMV There are others I am sure.
