Well, kilt pin, cap badge and sporran chain from The Scottish Tartan Museum will be on their way shortly. Just clicked the "Pay Now" button at the online gift shop.

My wife is getting all spun up about it, too. I ordered clan crest kilt pin and cap badge of her clan, MacKay. The kilt will be in Modern MacKay.

And now it's black hose and red flashes from USAKilts. Wasn't sure what colors to get at first, so I went searching through the "show us your pics" forum here and found a few of folks wearing the modern MacKay. A lot were pipers in white hose and it looked alright. Then I saw black hose and red flashes that looked very good. So, it was off to Rocky's website where I found hose for twenty bucks and red flashes on sale for ten.

I'm sure I'll wind up with a pair of white hose eventually, but for now I'll be satisfied with the black. The kilt I plan to order Oct. 1 comes with a set of tartan flashes, so the white may be in order then. Maybe. We'll see.

With the MacKay tartan, USAK's lovat green and lovat blue hose would work well. They would complement the darker colors of the tartan, but provide a little contrast.

Most bottle green and navy blue hose are quite dark, and would give a similar look to your black hose. The Lewis hose have brighter bottle green of which I'm very fond.

I'm trying to suggest that you not limit yourself to black and white! It's my firm belief that lovat green goes with everything, at least for day wear.

I hear you. I'm just trying to balance what I need versus what I can safely match colors to over the net. I may give the Lovat blue or green hose a shot. The only reason I was going to go with white is because it's "safe". The black I felt confident about because i'd seen it in pics.

Thanks for the suggestions. Knowing that someone else has tried it and it works (the colors) I'm more apt to give it a whirl and move away from the predictable white hose.

On 9/9 I ordered a plain sgian dhub, also from STM. Showed out of stock, so it will take a bit to get here.

after payday this week (9/16) I'll be ordering a glengarry.

And then the kilt! I've been watching the mailbox like a kid waiting for a cereal box premium, I don't know how I'm going to handle the jones when I order the kilt at the beginning of October. I've decided on ordering from USAKilts.

Jacket and vest will be last, I'm still deciding if i want to order the traditional PC since I'll be wearing it for gigs or if I want to get an Argyle and make it do double duty as a piping jacket and a personal use jacket.

And about the presentation for the Girl Scouts: I've been given free reign. I have to let them know in November how long i plan to take and what I plan to do, they will work the rest of the program around it. So I figure a short (remember the age and attention span) talk on history, play a few tunes, a short talk on culture, play a few more, then answer questions. I think the Q&A is likely safe because kids will ask questions about what is in front of them at the moment. A guy in a kilt playing the bagpipe is likely enough fodder for questions.

I have not forgotten the forum rule, if no pictures it did not happen. I plan to take a series of pics when the entire kit is here and I am wearing it.

Five minutes ago I just ordered a belt, buckle and diced glen from Celtic Croft.

I'll give my bank account a week or two off, then I'll be ordering the kilt from Rocky and crew at USAKilts. Had a short e-mail exchange with him regarding what kilt to get and with consideration for my current situation and my wifes' desire for a kilted skirt decided on a PV kilt in modern MacKay.

After some discussion here, I have also decide on the jacket. Argyll with two vests. A five button and standard necktie for less formal stuff and a three button with bowtie for more formal. Still looking for a place to order that, but I've got a bit of time yet.
