Oooh - I just *hate* it when I disagree with the Wiz. But, actually, a kilt can be made to fit any body shape. I'm a piper, and I have to wear a kilt with the band. I definitely do not meet the towel rule - I have a 26" waist and 42" hips. I can't pass the "towel" test (yeh, it fits my hips, but it's miles too big around my rib cage), but I certainly made myself a kilt that fits just fine.
The person on the left also would not meet the towel test, but her kilt fits great:
What's critical is getting the right measurements and finding a kiltmaker who's willing to work with those measurements if they aren't sort of standard.

Do you have access to an arrow T-50 Staple gun with 1/2 inch staples?

Meaning absolutely no disrespect, but seeing both your kilt, and your daughter's kilt next to a man's kilt, the taper really took some talent to get just right. Well done!

Well, basically... I've forgone the idea of putting down more velcro. I feel pretty tacky with velcro now. I might have my wife help me move it to make it a bit more snug, but not putting any more down.
It's what they called at Wolfstone a "battle kilt". Here's a reference picture: http://www.potomacleather.com/Lads-Battle.htm
It's very comfortable for day wear around the home, maybe out to a few errands (with the sash hanging off my left hip after belting, it actually doesn't look too bad - has a bit of the rustic/antique look to it), but I don't want to wear it daily in it's current status.
I'm thinking of simply taking it back to Wolfstone and having them take the fringe (not sure what it's really called) of the top and turning it more traditional. I like the sash, it's great when it gets cooler in the evenings, but it does get a bit irritating. Maybe just have the sash cut off and use as a variation of a fly plaid? I'm only trying to get creative ideas to fix the current situation instead of spending more money on a brand new kilt. I would like to have one for every day of the week and one for every possible occasion, but this definitely is the most casual of the kilts I own.
I really appreciate the advice here. The towel test did work, and if you saw my post about my MacKenzie I recently got from SWK, I think I look pretty alright in it! This "battle kilt", however, is a whole 'nother story!
