Well, don't be put off, that was over a year ago. The forum's landscape, management, and mods, were different from now. Some of the players from the old tie discussion are still around, and some have moved on.
There were plenty of people interested in a tie back then, and I'm sure there would be now. I know I was a player for a tie before, and would be now if I'm happy with the design/cost etc.
By all means get some suggestions going and see what happens.

I have loved the idea ever since I first saw it presented.

Here are a few concepts I threw together:

I made it a point to save it as a BMP, so that those (like me) who lack any serious photo-editing and design skills can upload it in a basic program and play with the colours using only the "fill" tool.

I'm hopeful this thread will be more fruitful than the last one!

Would be interested in an XMTS tie, as I wear a tie (nearly) every time I stand in front of a class. I have, however, sworn off neckties almost completely and prefer bow ties instead.

Fabric patterns that look good in a necktie (vertical) can be problematic in a bow (horizontal) -- and vice versa of course. It's a real problem if you're like me, and buy neckties in interesting patterns, cut them up, and make bow ties out of them.

An image, like the Saltire or the rampant lion stencilled or embroidered on a suitable colour background would be better for me. I apologize if I just kicked over the apple cart.

I could get real excited about a fabric, say muted dark blue, with little embroidered Saltires on it, that came in a bow tie or that could be purchased and made into one.

Alternatively, I see Beau Ties of Vermont offers an "11 Pipers Piping" bow tie for sale as a seasonal Christmas tie. I'm considering it. I already have their "Scrimgeour" tartan tie. Stripes, regimental or otherwise, don't really mean anything to me. Most people would say, "Nice tie" but not be able to name the pattern. If they thought it was regimental or school, they'd likely have to ask for an explanation. I have some striped ties, but they're just "fashion stripes."

Thoughts, offered for free, possibly worth what you paid for them.

    You most certainly can!

I just wanted to make sure the colours wouldn't match most kilts, since that was requested earlier in the thread.

Yes, but what about those who wear Oglvie or McCleod or Culloden? ;)

Well, I told myself I wouldn't get involved in this again, but for what it's worth, here is my favorite of the suggestions from the earlier threads on this topic; it was designed by McMurdo.

While it does not mimic a traditional "school tie" I think it does a good job of incorporating the XMarks tartan colors in a club style tie.

I like it, Zardoz. While I don't know how others feel, I had also thought about fewer stripes with the X-in-strap-and-buckle motif repeated.

I've seen some ties with repeating clan badge logos. I think that a dark blue tie with XMarks clan badges ( http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...64/#post902710 ) in grey sounds cool. In fact I have a similarly colored tie with military logos that I wear with the XMarks tartan sometimes.
