I have golfed in a casual kilt for the last four years and have had many golfer ask where I got my Kilt and does it open up the hip when swinging and I say yes and improves my drive, I just wear golf socks in my shoes.

Googling up "kilted golf" on google images brought some stuff - including this kilted golf tournement - probably in Alabama - since that's where the guy touting it is from.

Not sure all kilted golfers are "doing it right" but some good pics none the less.

Alright so well I hate to disappoint my Xmarkers, but the Georgia heat got the better of me yesterday. (Loud Boo's) I got dressed, Golf shirt-Kilt-Lightweight hose-lightweight sporran-golf visor etc. My lovely wife who really was looking out for my well-being said "Why don't you go outside in the sun for about 20 minutes to make sure you wouldn't be too hot." So at 10:45 am and the temp around 85 degrees with about 75% humidity, I resolved that my 16oz kilt was a bit too much for me to bear, I tried my lightweight SWK, but it didn't feel right so unfortunately I wore shorts and the sweat didn't stop until I got home and showered. I considered not writing a follow up to this post, because I felt ashamed and I let down all of those who gave me such good insight into playing kilted. Since I didn't play that great I will chalk it up to NOT following my instincts and go kilted-oppressive heat be damned!
    Cheers

Last time I ever played golf was in Atlanta...about 1975...the hot humidity was one reason I lost interest in the game....so for sure understand!

Yes I just golfed in a tournament at Mount Kidd, Alberta Canada. There were no issues with my highland attire and the dress code, I wore my 8 yard kilt and Kilt hose, a wool highland hat and Dunlop soft spike golf shoes. (The sporran did not interfere with my swing.)

It was 12 C and there was a light rain, fairly cool. Other players were wearing their synthetic cold weather golf gear.

After 14 holes, I was not cold, and thought that this was strange. My feet were wet , my hair was wet, but wool retains 70 % of its insulation when its wet. Most people thought I would be very cold, wearing a kilt, but I was not cold at all. I finished all 18 holes, some players quit after 9.

It gave me an appreciation for why Scots wear what they do, and a new appreciation as to why wool is so practical in wet climates. I guarantee an 8 yard wool kilt is warmer than any type of cotton pants.

BTW I had a 5 yard 10 Oz kilt made up for those warm days; you have to be a little more careful in the wind, as you would not want to reveal your personal grooming habits to the general public : )

It's interesting that I found this thread as I was just considering play disc golf kilted this weekend. I've thought about it for a while but now I think it's time. I just need to decide between the SK or the UK. I'll report back.

I have hosted the Saint Andrews Kilted golf tournament for the last 3 years and it is all about fun. Some remove their sporrans to play, I do not and have never had a problem with it. This is me on the tee of Pearl Country Club- shot a 76 this year and still came in tied for 14th.
