My wife Joan had a tumour removed from her right thigh the Thursday before Fresno. I didn't think the surgery would happen so fast! Anyway, I was home, playing "gopher" all weekend. The initial reports are that the tumor is not malignant, so that's good especially because the thing was huge.. She's getting around on crutches with a leg brace, but hopefully later in the week the brace will start to come off and she'll be going to physical therapy.

I was bummed (read: *very* bummed) to miss Fresno, but then my knee hurt a LOT on Saturday so maybe it's a good thing.

    How'd it go?

Wow. That's an understandable reason for not being at the Hammer Champs. Hope the recovery is proceeding according to plan.

Thought I might be going to Santa Cruz but the hotels are pretty expensive, the gas, etc. Just didn't seem like a good idea at this time...my 23 YO daughter is in the "donut hole" between her previous medical coverage under my plan and the onset of the Obama health plan January 1st. In the meantime, I'm paying $560 a month extra for her insurance...OUCH!

Anyway, do good at SC and get that knee healthy for next year.

SC is "iffy". I may be at the KVMR Festival in Grass Valley instead, as I have a prior commitment to that event. It depends on whether I can be gone overnight or not. KVMR would require me to be away from home both Friday night and Saturday night, and much will depend on how mobile Joan is by then. If two nights away is out of the question, then I will go to SC for the day. If the knees are up to it, then I'll throw.

I'm planning on going to Ventura the following weekend, but again, much depends on whether Joan is mobile enough for me to be away for two nights.

Better check before you head up to KVMR.

Apparently it is the same weekend as SC and Reno. Last I heard Justin Rosa was putting on the games at Reno as KVMR didn't seem particularly interested in having the Heavy Athletics at their festival. All hearsay so check it out before you make any comittments.

Actually, I was to be taking part in my re-enactment Guild activities at KVMR. I didn't expect to throw, just wear a skilt and heft a sword and look menacing. .

However, Joan took a fall this morning and came down hard on her shoulder. She's pretty shaken up, though I think she will be fine in a couple of days, but it's clear that I can't be away from the house for two nights.

I CAN do Santa Cruz, though...it's a 90 minute drive, I go there in the morning and I'm back in the evening. So I'll be throwing.
