A jack o' lantern made from a turnip or rutabaga instead of a pumpkin.

I thought the turnip thing was Irish? They certainly get credit for bringing the celtic holiday to the Americas.

    Sounds like fun.

What kind of grub? And what is "cider and blackcurrant like?
Also, if anyone still does, how do you carve your turnip lanterns?

So it's a Celtic Scots-Irish holiday that WE get blamed for exporting to Scotland??!

    Typical.

Next we'll get blamed for Haggis.

JK/ I'm well aware of the ACTUAL holiday, and what America has done to it, but it seems a bit unjust, all the same.

In Australia, until recently where you get the occasional knock at the door from a bright eyed kid and the kids embarrassed father giving you a look like "the wife made me do it!", we don't celebrate Halloween at all.

My Nana on the other hand, she would drag us to church on Halloween and All Saints Day. I was so envious of the Americans! I just wanted to stay home and watch Halloween specials of the Simpsons. lol

The Treehouse of Horror specials are always good. I always have to watch The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown as well.
