    Thank you all for your kind remarks. It is actually 3.8 lbs, the blade is 32 1/4 inches long, and 1/4" thick. It is about as heavy as my other baskethilt backsword. Going to start looking for another basket.

    Ah, that 'splains it. Antiques I've seen generally had thinner blades.
