    Three PV kilts...

    ...three different textures.

The one on the bottom is almost a fleece, the middle one is closest to the wool kilt texture and the top one is very stiff. Bought them together and I wasn't expecting such a difference in textures. Is this normal?

Can you tell us the make of the three kilts.

From your photos I think only the top kilt is actually P/V.

There are many sellers who seem to use the term P/V to mean any synthetic fabric.

P/V stands for a specific fabric which is a blend of Polyester and Rayon fibers. There is only one weaving company which weaves this blend of fibers into registeredTartans suitable for Kilts and that is Marton Mills in the UK.

From the photos it appears that the bottom two Kilts are actually Acrylic or an Acrylic blend. These fibers appear to have a bit more thickness when woven due to the kink in the fibers themselves but actually weight less than an equivalent P/V.

To better help you would you let us know who made the kilts, and the true weight of them. Use a Postal scale if you have one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the top kilt looks like a Heritage of Ireland. As far as I know, this is sold under the brand "The Kilt." If so, they have varying, so called, PV kilt textures. I bought one of their MacDonald kilts, from The Kilted Nation, and it's as stiff as all get out. Actually, I love it, but the stiffness is almost too much.

I, also, have another one of their PV kilts (Scottish National) and it's more like a PV from Marton Mills.

I'm anxious to see what company your kilts are from.

Any advice from those "in the know," about how to soften up one of these babies?

They are Gold Bros PV kilts. I wanted some that I could put to hard use without feeling bad if they were ripped or stained. The top one is the Heritage of Ireland, the middle one is Douglas and the bottom one is Hamilton gray. I got them off Ebay from a vendor nammed MacDonald Sporrans. For the price I was expecting cheaper kilts, but they are not so bad. I will try and get them weighted as soon as I can at the post office.
Thank you all for your knowledge.
