Any ideas what tartan this might be? Or...
... whether it's a recognized tartan at all or simply some nice looking wool fabric with a plaid pattern? I got this bit o' fabric from a friend the other day. The whole thing is probably 9 yards easy and is full length 58-60" fabric. It is real wool although I don't know enough to tell you what weight the fabric is. Haven't decided what I want to do with it yet - make a small kilt or great kilt or maybe try to make a box pleated X-kilt with it, although getting the pattern right through the pleats on an X-kilt is probably nigh impossible.

It's a modern trade pattern and not traditional (recognised) tartan although the manufacturer will undoubtedly have a name or pattern number for it in order to classify it.
Over all a pleasing colour arrangement that will make up well.

I looked through my 'The Complete Book of Tartan' which has quite a few of the more common tartans listed and couldn't find it there for sure. The guy whom I got it from is the husband of a costumer and she tends to accumulate fabrics the way black holes accumulate matter. I suspect it was acquired somewhere as a "good deal" with intent to use it someday for something, but was eventually culled and thus ended up in my hands. It'd be nice if it were some recognized tartan but as you mentioned it is a nice pattern and should look nice when made into a kilt regardless.
