    Is this common?

    Morning all,

I now have kilts from 4 different makers and I seem to have the same issue on all 5 kilts. On the left hand side of the apron it always curls forward. On the hanger straight, freshly ironed looks good on the board but as soon as I put them on the front does it's curl thing.

Most likely a measurement issue----if your hips are larger than the kilt is built for you (ie you are actually a true 38 but the kilt hip is built for a 37 or 36 instead) you will get that "flying" pleat of the first pleat at the reverse pleat. A sign that you have recently gained weight or that you need to use a slightly higher hip measurement next time you order a kilt.

It can also be brought on if you tighten your bottom right hand strap too tight, which mimics having too small of a hip built inot the kilt. So try that first.

That was my thought as well. If you're really ratcheting down the lower strap, that can cause pulling on the apron.

Ya, Barb explains what to do in the link Zardoz posted if the apron is flipping.

    * Never mind the following if you don't have the lower straps. *
However, the right lower buckle of my kilt was also placed too far over and it caused flipping open problems with the first and second pleats after the apron on the left side, as well as the apron; I had to move it. I suppose it could just as well be the tight lower strap causing the problem.

I wish that were the case but two of the kilts have no bottom strap.

I was wondering that since I do have an unusual build for a guy, I actually have a rear. Can it be that the pushing on the front from the belly vs the pushing out the back from the butt is doing it? I had my wife do the measurements per the instructions and made sure she did pull the tape tight. When it comes down to it the hip (on me is lower due to the butt) is the same as my waist. Causes problems in anything but relax fit pants since if it fits my waist (vs the abdomen for the kilt) it won't fit the legs or rear. I think the PC name is an atletic build. I had this issue even when I was 160ibs.

It is not to bad, just a little flip but I was noticing it on all of the kilts.

    Thx,
    Jim

    Question

Drac, correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me that when you are talking about "hip" vs. "butt" you are saying that your "hip" measurement is smaller than your "butt" measurement would be ? If that is the case, that might be part of the issue. Measuring guides vary, but generally the "hip" measurement is done around whatever the largest part of your hips, butt etc. and some makers tell you to do that one with a finger under the tape.

Correct, my hips are smaller but I did measure at the largest partwhile is several inches lower than most diagrams.

I am hoping as I lose weight that it will be less. It's a slow process but on it's way for both my health and the Navy.

    Thx,
    Jim
