Texas Ren Fest 1001 Dreams
Last weekend, (10/16) I ventured back to the Texas Renaissance Festival for the "1001 Dreams" themed weekend, when all the mystical creatures come out to play... we just call it "Fairy weekend". I also ran into a couple of X-Markers, and as usual took a load of photos! Here we go.....
Right inside the gate I meet some friendly woodland creatures, Sherry on the left is in the faire cast, she does a different costume and character for each themed weekend.
And my friend Elizabeth with her Mom.
I run into my friend Angie from out Star Trek club.
And I hear some period music on period instruments.
I hear someone holler my name, and meet X-Marker Batninja.
And later that day, I ran into Houston X-Marker D.A. Guertin.
And I of course took in a Circa Paleo show, where Jenny's fiddle brought out the dancers of all ages.
And something for that "Do's and Don'ts" thread we don't have anymore....
More to come....

Texas Ren Fest 1001 Dreams II
There were a lot of fairy folk on hand, I photo'ed about 100. Here are some of my faves, and the names we made up for them;
the 'Fall Fairy', My friend Sandy.
The 'Flower Child' fairy.
The 'Transvestite Fairy'
I like this one, she had a swatter and net on her back and a cage of fairies she caught for dinner!
'Sparkle-pants' fairy
the young 'Hippy Sneakers' fairy.
The 'Pin-Up' fairy
And while I'm sure most fairy folk are nice, we did see a few "bad" fairies;
although 'bad' in a good way....
and lastly,
The 'Utilikilt Fairy'

I'd call that a "do" and a "don't"!
I've never been to a ren fair, Zardoz, so I always enjoy your pictures. Thanks for posting!

Great photos, Zardoz. I'll be out there for All Hallows Eve weekend myself. The Bluebonnet tartan looks awesome!

The people watching is at least half the fun of
Renfests. I have been to the RenFest in Plantersville several times and you never really know what you will see there.
Great pics Z.

Thanks. Your pictures are always fun. Texans sure aren't stuffy.
What beautiful gardens, and fountains etc. Is this place only for Renn fairs or do they use it for other outdoor events? what town is it in?

The fairgrounds are strictly TRF, for use once a year (if I recall correctly). It's in Todd Mission, between Plantersville and Magnolia.
But most folk I know just say "Houston"

TRF is a permanent renfaire site, about an hour North of Houston near Plantersville Texas. TRF is only open for 8 themed weekends per year in October and November. They are proud of the gardens, there is a large open garden area with a walking path, and 5 differently themed inclosed gardens, some set up as wedding chapels. The faire village is about 53 acres, not including the camping and parking. There are 17 stages with nonstop music and entertainment from about 35 featured performers, over 350 shops or booths, and about 30 food and drink vendors. Last year they had over 400,000 visitors.
