Celtic Croft or Stillwater?

So, I'm thinking about getting my dad a kilt for Christmas. I know he's not going to wear it a whole lot, but when he does, it would be for dressy, but not black tie occasions and maybe a Highland game.

With that in mind, I was looking at getting a Stillwater Heavy Weight in Black Watch (he has a black and white picture of his dad in a kilt and horsehair sporran so I'm pretty sure it's Black Watch) But then I saw a thread and a poster mention CC economy Black Watch kilts being nice, but I can't find on the website what they're made of.

I think my dad is more likely to take to kilt-wearing if the kilt is made of wool, even light weight wool rather than PV.

The CC "Economy Kilts" are done with their 'Homespun Tartan' it's a blend of polyester & wool, woven on old-world type looms. It has a rougher, looser weave, compared to the SWK woolie. But you can order it made to (limited) waist, hip and length, where the SWK only comes in stock waist sizes and a 24" length.

I'm confused by this statement on the site:
"HOWEVER, please keep in mind that the Economy Kilt (both Stock and Special-Order) is NOT a custom tailored kilt, so it will most likely not fit as if it was tailored for you."

They say it won't be tailor-made, but then there's the order form that asks for your waist, hip and length measurements.

We use our economy kilts for all our wedding rentals. For the price these are very nice kilts. We rarely have any kind of complaint about them. I have one myself and have been wearing it to Burn's night for a few years now and it still looks great. I thank you for you interest and I hope to hear from you soon.

Hey Steve,

What are your recommendations re washing that particular fabric? I've seen several other varieties of poly/wool advertised as machine washable, and have machine washed some I got from B&S with no apparent damage.

We always recommend dry cleaning. You should ask your dry cleaner if they have experience with leather and pleats before leaving your kilt with them. Your economy kilt will look better longer.

Haha! Well my dad lives in Montana so the weather is a little warmer.

I would love to get him an ex-military kilt or even an ex-hire kilt, but the ones I've found are out of our price range for a Christmas present for one person.
