    "RED" Movie: No spoilers here.

Brought to my mind as I read an old thread about Hellen Mirren playing HRH Elizabeth in a movie. Hellen plays a retired CIA agent (stone cold killer), along with Bruce Willis (straight man to John Malkovich), Morgan Freeman (aging gracefully but determined to go out with a bang) and John Malkovich (real whack-job nuts). Richard Dreyfuss plays a gangster, an actor from the series "Nip/Tuck plays the Vice President.

No kilts, but there is a scene where Morgan Freeman is dressed up like a third world general in more gold braid than a 1960's couch.

My wife and I saw it this past weekend at the theater. Not sure i'll spend the money to buy a copy, but I did enjoy the action and humor.

I won't ruin it with spoilers, but if you like action/adventure with a healthy dose of comedy and a dash of dark humor, this is a good one.

Sounds like a legend of a cast. The Shawshank redemption was on tv a few weeks ago, but it was on too late and the wife scoulded me, so I went to bed. That weekend I got it out on DVD and we both watched it, her for the first time. Morgan Freeman, what a legend.

It only goes to show the versatility of Dame Helen Mirren as an actress.

Not only can she play Queens (both Elizabeths for example) but also servants such as the housekeeper in Gosford Park or a Russian astronaut in 2010.

I want to put in a plug for Ms Mirren's TV series "Prime Suspect," in which she plays a pioneering London police woman. DVDs were available in the US last winter and are now seen in Canada, even though I don't think the series officially aired here (PBS ran it in the USA so most Canucks did have the opportunity to watch). The series is quite well done, gritty and I guess realistic.

There is a kilt involved in this movie indirectly. One of the riggers on this movie wore a kilt every Friday. During the shoot, Bruce put up some cash for a lottery for the crew. The rigger won the cash and next day he came into my shop and purchased a leather kilt. We nick named it the "Die Hard" kilt.
The Film was shot in Toronto. FYI
    Cheers

I saw it last week, I thought it was a really good movie, although I thought the main love story was a bit implausible.

I thought her performance in Shadowboxer was really, really good. The plots seem a bit similar.

That was a good movie. I spent the majority of the time drooling over Bruce Willis

I hope I'm as cool as Helen Mirren when I am her age.
