It's my birthday!
And it stunk. Not too terrible, but not what you'd call a spectacular day.
I work night shift, so was sleeping soundly when the wife woke me up with a panicked voice "Hurry! Get up!" I roll out of bed expecting some calamity. She reminds me that i have yet to renew my license plates on my car and they expire at midnight. So I drag myself out of bed and go wait in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Gave the state fifty bucks because it's my birthday.
I get home and am about to get back into bed when the phone rings. It's my mother, wishing me a happy birthday. Nice sentiment, but nobody has called to wish me a happy birthday since I turned 18. That was a very long time ago. Talked for a bit, then began making my way back to the bedroom. The phone rings again. My grandparents. They both want to talk.
I got about an hour nap, then off to work.
Birthdays were betterwhen I was a kid. I got presents. I didn't have to go to work. I didn't have to shell out cash. Eh. Tomorrow is another day.

Hapy Birthday!
Who says you don't get presents? You are getting good wishes from all over the globe!
I worked night shift on my birthday and had the same problem, with friends and family calling. Eventually I turned off the phone.

Thank you all. My 8 yard kilt will be arriving from USAKilts sometime between now and Christmas (closer to Thanksgiving), so I guess it's all going to turn out pretty well.
As for Mipi, I can remember when an annual registratiion for a car was 15 dollars and gas was 59 cents a gallon. By comparison, fifty bucks seems like a lot. What really gets me is they charge a tax to register a car, then they charge me sales tax on the tax! Heh. Pretty ingenious, except it's me they're taxing.

Birthdays In my opinion are over rated. Havent had a good one since before my 21st.
All of my friends have stories of their "21 Shots" etc, I went to the bar, had 2 beers, and then went home because my friend had been killed in Iraq and his funeral was that next day. Gave me a bit of perspective that another day can be another day.
My mother does call me at 6:07 am every year though.
