This storm recorded a record low inland barometric pressure two days ago, measured at 28.22 inches Hg. This is an all time low for inland pressure. The winds have been oppressive over a very wide area.

A nice long plaid is a great thing for windy weather - they can be wrapped around in a spiral to keep the kilt down and the temperature up.
I mean the sort of thing you see on Monarch of the Glen neatly folded and wrapped around under the right arm and over the left shoulder. In bad weather they can be unwrapped and unfolded, put one corner just to the right of the belt buckle and tuck it in, wrap around the hips to the left, then bring up in front and around the neck - in really heavy weather putting the edge over the head is a good idea, it deflects wind, hail or rain and keeps your bonnet on too.
The little kilt is fine in fine weather, but you'll be glad of the plaid when the weather is bad.
