Combining black and brown, especially a brown sporran with black shoes, has a long history in Highland Day Dress, as seen in this image from a c1930 Highland Dress catalogue:

The belt wouldn't come into the picture very often, as it was called a "dirk belt" at that time, and dirks weren't worn with Day Dress, or "Outdoor Dress" as they called it.

No mention of Prince Charles yet???? He mixes black and brown frequently too...or rather his dressers do.

Yes Ron I'm sure a man such as himself has no or has made no choices in his dress for the day.

Question # 7 Should one’s leather accessories all have to match colors?

No, just make sure they match in levels of formality.

I made both my Black and Brown Sporran belts. I don't use chains since they can be rough on the kilt. I run the belt through the loop on the back of the sporran, so I don't need clips. These belts are extreamly easy to make and you can get everything you need from Tandy Leather Factory to make one in a couple of hours.

Looking sharp as always Jamie. The two tone shoes and sporran certainly take the guess work out of matching.

So that brown+black Highland Dress is codified into the dress of the Highland soldier. The military day sporrans are a rather dark brown, but definately not black.

I'm glad I found you guys!1 you asking all the questions I have had banging around my head about this stuff.

I am looking for a decent pair of boots and a sporran and I have been flopping around trying to figure out the color thing because I have a black belt and nothing else at this point.
