    Kiltroll versus Ladies Tights

I noticed an advert in one of the newspapers at the weekend for a kiltroll, the best way to pack your kilt when travelling, this cost £25 from a firm in Lanarkshire.
Like many x-markers, I prefer rolling up the kilt in a leg of ladies tights,(please do not misinterpret this) it always has served me well but is there any advantage in buying a kiltroll?

Can't comment from personal experience, however my Dad has a kiltroll and swears by it for travelling - he's had it for years and is very happy with it. He's in Glasgow, no idea where he got the kiltroll from though.

Tights have always worked for me, even when taking them abroad. I think it's the slight squeeze they give which keeps the pleats together.

I'd be worried that a kilt roll would see the whole thing flopping about and getting crushed in one way or another.

Any supporters of kilt rolls on here?

Have 3 kiltrolls and have used them occasionally. each came with a stiffening sheet to aid in rolling the kilt before bagging, which helps with packing. Good way to take a kilt as a carry on on a flight if you are only taking one. Have also used the stocking method for other bagged travel. Works too but only if you are putting the kilt in something else to carry, as stockings generally don't come with handles or shoulder straps. When travelling with more than one kilt I prefer to use some form of rolling garment bag and keep the kilts on hangers for the trip. My golf trip two months ago to scotland I took three kilts in a Skyroll carry on garment bag which rolled the kilts around a central tube which housed all my other kilt gear---hose, belts, sporrans, etc... Tight fit but worked great.

I always use a kilt roll that I got through Scotweb when I'm transporting the kilt, and it's served me well. You place the kilt on a somewhat stiff plastic sheet and roll it within this. The roll is then secured by two elastics on either end and placed in a bag with handle and detachable shoulder strap. Great as a carry on when flying! Oh, and the bag is also fairly water proof, so no big worries there.

I am a great fan of the kilt roll for a carrying bag. Mine has the similar wrap with a strengthening bar to keep it rigid and has a zip top and handle for shoulder and one for had carrying. Excellent lightweight piece of luggage which I find essential.

I'm with Schiehallion. My kilt travels a couple of hundred miles most weekends March-November in it's kilt roll, strapped on the back of the bike. The best way of keeping it dry, uncreased & safe.
