Bethlehem latitude is around 31 and Phoenix is around 34.

The funny thing is that the date palm's scientific name is Phoenix dactylifera.

We're quite a bit beyond the coconut belt up here.

The thread has wandered mightily. I was in Ireland last week and quite surprised that they were all preparing for Halloween. As a child in southern England, I don't remember Halloween at all (but Guy Fawkes with the bonfire and soccer ball head for sure).

I like the idea of a small community fire and handing out buringin cattail torches for others to light their fires in their fireplaces. We just had a big party - that was fun. Someone brought me elderflower juice, so I guess that fits too.

for here it seems the 16-50 age group has took back halloween,
i was at a couple of halloween parties last week one at a local pub which was mobbed with folk dressed up and another a private party again everyone all dressed up,

yet from friends around the globe all seemed to be saying the same thing that the kids that used to go round the doors for the treats just didn't go out in the numbers as years gone-by some areas here didn't have kids at all going door to door
over 300 houses at my bit for example and not one knock at the door the whole night
