Albannach is on Second Life

I just heard from a friend that Albannach has a presence in the virtual Universe called "Second Life". I've never visitd, but sounds interesting.

I've messed around with Second Life before. It's a neat toy, but at the end of the day, I found that it was just that -- a toy. The best way I can describe it, is an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) but completely stripped and devoid of the "game" element.

It took me forever to get it set up on my PC, longer than I wanted to create an avatar or character, and then I spent hours running around doing really nothing in particular, wondering why people would spent lots of REAL money on VIRTUAL items within the world. There's virtual real estate you can buy to build virtual houses and virtual stores to sell virtual products... There's even virtual night clubs and whatnot... But it's boring as hell because there's no point -- no goal, and you run out of things to do and places to explore rather quickly. And if you don't spend anything, it's even more boring.

I uninstalled it after about 3 days of monkeying with it, and concluded that Second Life seems to be geared mainly to appeal to those who don't have a First Life... So I really don't think you're missing out on much by checking out Albannach virtually -- it will be a pale effigy compared to the real thing.

Sushi, you've hit the nail on the head...and identified why I stopped playing video games a year or two ago. Real life >> fake life.

I'm afraid that the two people I know who spend a lot of time on Second Life also fit this description. One of them let me know about Albannach.

In spare time (when I have some) I play a game or two. I am currenly helping to develope and MMORPG. Trying to get the kilt as an outfit in there.

EDIT: Though the MMORPG'S I play, have more to do than second life. I play the fantasy stuff where you are running around killing things, and always have something to do. I will be the irst to attest that they are a waste of time, but if you have a life, and need time to bust, they canbe fun. Expeciall if you actully know some of the players in real life.
