Smashing jacket. Good job.

I'm not usually a houndstooth fan, but this one looks really nice, and it looks like you did a good job on the whittling-down.
I think you win the prize for the all-time greatest kilt pic.

Thank you all for the generous comments. This conversion is the first "real" sewing I've done in years. I have done some costume making and a little bit of theater prop work, but nothing that needed to look good up close. Who knew that the construction of a well-made mens jacket was so architectural?
There is not a simple hem around the lapel edge, but rather a double hem (there's a name for it, I'm sure) with a facing. Then the whole thing blends into the lining. As for pockets, thank goodness they were patch pockets and easily relocated; however, as you can see, I did a poor job of matching the checks. I tried to sew it with pins only when I should have basted.
Still, I enjoyed the experience and am pleased with the outcome. The next one will be better, but I'm not ready to work up a business plan quite yet.

I was egged on by the photographer, the Lady O'Brian. I tripped right after this shot and her gleeful schadenfreude mirth made us both laugh.

Fantastic! I am jealous. You wear it with sang froid!
"Before two notes of the theme were played, Colin knew it was Patrick Mor MacCrimmon's 'Lament for the Children'...Sad seven times--ah, Patrick MacCrimmon of the seven dead sons....'It's a hard tune, that', said old Angus. Hard on the piper; hard on them all; hard on the world." Butcher's Broom, by Neil Gunn, 1994 Walker & Co, NY, p. 397-8.

Heh, I was thinking the same thing about the background. Looks very familiar! Boots are a good choice for walking around out-of-doors around here, and he chose wisely.
I can only echo the previous replies: that jacket does not look like a conversion. It looks like it was originally a kilt jacket. Nicely done!

That's a fine looking jacket! I'm looking for a jacket to convert and I hope it turns out that well.
