The last time I was made fun of for wearing my kilt it was by a young man who thought it was "cool" to wear his pants half way around his butt showing his boxers. When I informed him where his so-called "cool" style originated (the state prison system) and what it signified, he didn't care. In fact, it seemed to raise the "cool factor". It's scary that today's youth are tomorrow's adults who may someday be running this country.

I wouldn't worry so much. To quote Abe Simpson from The Simpsons when young Homer told him he wanted to be president someday:
"This is the greatest nation on earth. We have a whole system in place to keep people like you from becoming president."

Yeah, I am heading for presidency. And you want me. Less government, more state and personal control and much much more. Getting America backon track with the constitution, what it says contextually, not how wit is read today.Onl problem, I have 17 more years until I am elegable.

This is why I no longer teach.

DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IN AMERICA. We need a subforum that we get to talk about politics, et.

There were many openly gay students there, and they weren't taunted like I understand happened at other schools (and, yes, this was a public HS)
And this guy in the muted pink, purple, and blue sees no offense to be taken in your post.
So, you're a radio ham, then. So am I. Nobody can see the kilt when you're on the radio, though!

Never used ATV or SSTV, or worked a public service event?

As a youngest son, I always did whatever I wanted, and still do. I wouldn't think that this necessarily results in children behaving poorly or other faults, as long as the children have an internal compass. Perhaps the compass poles are shifting and children no longer know which way is north?

I have a 12 year old son and a 14 year old daughter who have been taught from an early age what is and is not acceptable behavior. Recently my son told me that he had held a door open for an elderly woman who had both hands full of grocery bags and that she had said "My, what a gentleman. Thank you". He then complained that the people who were behind her just walked by as he held the door as if he were a door man. I told him he should have just let the door close and if they get hit by the door, too bad but that would just bring him down to their level. A couple of days later it was my turn to be the "door man" and as the person walked through the door without even aknowledging me, I told him "you're welcome" to which he responded "I didn't say thank you". I told him "I know, but you're welcome anyway". Then let the door close before someone else came along. The guy just walked away all upset. My son asked what his problem was, I told him I didn't know but that common courtesy isn't as common as it used to be and that I was glad he wasn't like that.

Re my notification in post #25.
The result of the Moderators decision was that the photographs were in contravention of the rules, in this case Rule #12 and potentially others also.
The post and photographs are therefore permanently removed from this forum.
Rule amendments are now being considered to to clarify the position regarding usage of such material in the future.
In the meantime, the attention of members is drawn to a statement at the bottom of the Home Page:
"Do not reproduce or re-transmit anything on www.XMarkstheScot.com without the express, written permission of the Original Author or the forum owner, Steve Ashton. "
It's easy to miss I know but it's there nonetheless.
