Special 10th wedding aniversary Gift

The Rogue and I are celebrating 10 years together next May. (How has he put up with me this long I don't know.

) He asked for his gift to be a new Prince Charlie jacket and waist coat.
We dont' want bargin basement, but we dont' want to spend outrageous amounts of money on it either. As a professional seamstress myself I do understand that quality costs money, but we don't want to go overboard.

Any suggestions?

I was able to find a brand new black PC and waistcoat on ebay not too long ago that was 14oz Barathea wool made in Scotland for under $200, including shipping to the US. I could not find any difference in this one as compared to any other off-the-rack set from any other on-line retailers selling for as much as $500+. Now if you are talking about having one made to measure, then that's another story.

Side note, I have found that for some reason European sizing is a bit smaller than the typical sizing here in the US. I own a number of suits and sport coats and they are all 46R, but every PC, Argyle or Tweed that I have tried on, I needed a 48R. You may check with the sellers to confirm this information.

USA Kilts for $300, no customs hassle. Email or phone for sizing advice. I have one of theirs. While I don't have a tailor's eye (apprentice kiltmaker, more like), it seems well put together.

Our other stateside advertisers are also sure to have PC's. (Celtic Croft, STM in the US; Keltoi, B&S in Canada). If you want a different color, check around.

If you buy from the UK, a price under $200 should avoid import duties.

Well, I was going to make those very suggestions! Both USA Kilts and Celtic Croft have always taken really good care of me.

So 10 years! That's awesome!

If he doesn't happen to be an off the rack size - Lochcarron sews up made-to-measure Prince Charlies at a very fair price. I ordered mine through my kiltmaker.

If you're looking for a made-to-measure jacket and waistcoat, you might consider going for a regulation doublet rather than a Prince Charlie jacket. It's perfect for all of the situations in which one would wear a PC, but has an added sense of flair.

I've only ever heard good things about Mackenzie Frain, and their prices are decent for a made-to-measure garment.
