My first recall of him was as a film company executive on The Producers, a TV series from the 1960s. He was not funny. His TV series as Detectice Frank Drebbin (prompting the films) was a treasure to keep.

You know he's been on my mind all day. Everybody on facebook keeps saying he was a great actor and will be missed, but that's only half the truth. Actually he was a great clown. One of the first order.

Like some other great clowns and fine actors, he believed in being serious about doing your work well, but NEVER taking yourself too seriously.

I believe it was Roger Ebert that called him "The Olivier of Farce."
But he died the way most elderly Canadians would like it- on his estate in Florida. Ba-dump-bump.

Every time I think about his passing, I get misty eyed. He has given me lots of hours of yuks. He will always be a hero to me.

I once heard an interview with him where he said that he watches his own films just so he can see the goofy expressions that he makes. He even made himself laugh! My whole life's philosophy was inspired by him- If it doesn't make me laugh then it's not worth doing!

Was that Leslie Nielsen in "Tammy and the bachelor" with Debbie Reynolds?

Tammy loves Leslie
According to our friend Google, you would be correct there. And as noted on another thread recently, if it wasn't true, wikipedia wouldn't print it.
Oops, that's right, they don't print it.
