There's nothing wrong with tearing them apart. I've seen little old ladies search and hunt and look for a bunch of 2 or 3 bananas. You might be helping somebody out by busting up the big clumps of fruit.

I've found bananas ripen faster if you seperate them, and last longer and stay fresher if I leave them attached in the bunch.

Also learned to open them from the base, like monkeys do, so there are fewer of those stringy things attached to the meat.

    That's what I do.
I don't wish to purchase more than I know I'm going to eat, so why waste the extra?

Yeah, that makes sense. But it still feels like I'm busting apart a 6-pack of sodas or something.

Lol... When I read the thread title and started reading, I thought I had walked into a lost, stray joke that had got misplaced from Craig's Corner... So I kept reading, waiting and expecting a punch line.

Only when none came did I realize that it was actually a straight thread.... Jeeez, I think I need a holiday.

(I guess there's just something inherently funny about bananas...)

Amazingly, I have never heard of putting the bunch into water to keep fresh. Makes perfect sense, of course, just never seen it done.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

I'm with you on this one too. Also, all our friends are now in the habit of giving us their over-ripe bananas and we peel and freeze them three to a bag - just right for our banana bread recipe.

    Same here.

I haven't bought bananas in a while. Too many and I get sick of them, and invariably they end up in bread because they're too funky to eat normally.
