Looking back over this thread I found this comment rather apt.
I have never been mistaken for a Scot going by the sound of my voice, but I have been mistaken for an Englishman.
When I explain that I am from Cape Town, some folk still don’t think I sound South African.
But nobody from Britain makes that mistake.

When I come over to America I often get mistaken for an Australian. I was in a bar once when some of the guys started singing 'Waltzing Matilda'. I just smiled and let them get on with it.
The Kilt is my delight !
