Actually, it does look like he has a narrow apron. I don't see a shadow to indicate a pleat right in the middle.

I assume that is the one with impossible stags on mist-covered hills, pipes heard echoing at an unidentifiable distance, and huge Highlanders with enormous shaggy beards and ridiculously oversized weapons that would make anime characters jealous!

And I agree with Ryan: although I think the belted plaid looks a little too much like the outfit worn by a certain cartoon Viking, it's more historically correct than the outfit worn by a certain Australian-American actor and movie director in a certain historically questionable movie. If you're going to go historically questionable, you might as well go mythical.
