Sporan Straps
I am new to X Marks and somewhat new to the kilt world. I was wondering what people's opinions were on sporran hangers.
Thanks,
Ryan

First off
Second, I for one do not like them, I am sure you will find many people who like them, but I prefer the tridional belt strap over the hangers, I feel the Hangers pull on the kilt belt just a bit too much for my liking.

Hi Ryan,
Welcome to XMTS.
I, personally, do not like sporran hangers, and always prefer straps. The look of hangers looks odd to me.

I've tried sporran hangers, depending on one's build, they can be a nice option to the strap for casual wear. They were ultimately not for me, but do sometimes make nice hangers for other stuff.

Not a fan of the sporran hangers. For one, I don't wear a kilt belt so they would be no use to me. Second, it makes moving the sporran out of the way impossible. And if you wear a kilt long enough during the day, you'll know what I mean.

I don't care for them either. They're a nice alternative for "gentlemen of substance" though, since they tend not to accentuate the belly region like a sporran belt does.
But I would think that the weight of a sporran hanging from the front half of the kilt belt would be a constant annoyance, trying to pull the kilt belt down. And since there are no belt loops to hold the kilt belt in place (except in the rear, which would do no good even if they were used), this would be an all-day struggle, trying to keep everything in place.

Just a point of clarification, it may be a little effort but not impossible. Most sporran hangers have button snaps to slip them on and off a belt without undoing the belt. If you want to remove your sporran, just pop the button snaps and the entire rig comes off.
If you want to remove just the sporran, use the trigger snaps that attach to the d-rings on the back of the sporran.

I have only used sporran straps and chains and have rarely seen sporran hangers in this part of the world.

I own a pair of hangers that I use for casual wear. For example when we go the park with our dogs or to the beach etc. I also wore them for a vacation recently on normal day tour outings. BUT...let me tell you not all sporran hangers are made the same and Steve's are very good and very durable. They are very good quality, so you'd do well to look at Oconee, the clips he uses are very strong.

I definitely like a leather strap rather than the hangers. And I'm very happy to see that most of the people here agree with me. I was told recently when I was making my first sporran that I ought to fit it for hangers instead of a strap because the hangers were the common/current sporran suspension method. I thought that was a funny statement since I'm pretty sure the strap is the way to go and looks better, but it gave me pause. Now this thread has reassured my thoughts on it.
