Not quite: this bears repeating, which is why the Wizard of BC repeats it so often. Use the instructions given you by your kiltmaker---not some other kiltmaker!!!
The kiltmaker may not measure the same way as the previous kiltmaker, or as I do. Rocky and Barb take measurements differently, but they each turn out a fantastic kilt. You can give him or her the measurements of a good kilt, just be sure you tell them what you're measuring.
A. If i give him the overall length of a kilt that fits, and he adds 2 inches for the rise, will the kilt fit? Probably not. If he adds the rise for a military kilt, all bets are off!
B. If I assume that he's adding the rise, but he expects me to give the overall length, will the kilt fit? Sure, if you like a mini-kilt!
Michael, you are doing the right thing by speaking with the kiltmaker. The other question that occurs to me is: do you wear your kilt at the top of the knee? (since that's where you're measuring)
