MacDonell of Keppoch in WOB Colours?

I decided to start a fresh thread on the subject so as not to further hijack the thread on tartans based upon military decorations:

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately needless multiplication is here and running rampant with literally dozens of new tartans this year along, but I gain solace in the thought that the wheel will turn full circle and one day people will see the value of those truly old setts that we can date to the C18th Highlands.

I assume that you are referring to the standard Keppoch sett. This is an interesting one. Stewart includes it in his Old & Rare but the specimen that he cites is unknown, to me at least. There is a specimen of a very similar sett in the West Highland Museum with two blue lines on the red/green ground as opposed to the one in the Keppoch. I suspect that it is a Wilsons' piece but cannot get to over check it until next month. That said, there is no record of Wilsons weaving the Keppoch but if they did the colours would be the same as those in similar setts such as their: New Bruce (now Drummond/Grant), MacGillivray etc, etc. Here's my weaving of the New Bruce in their shades.

Thanks Peter, though I'm not sure we're thinking of the same standard Keppoch sett. I'm thinking of #511. Is this also the same one found in Stewart Old & Rare? (forgive me if it is...)
I do recall that in some other thread, some time ago, when I mentioned the MacDonell of Keppoch tartan, you said you preferred it in the Wilsons' colours.

I've noted how similar the Johnston's & the Fort William tartans are (see computer generated images below).

Thank you again for posting that New Bruce sample!

On my list is the desire to one day have a kilt made (as the ol' purse allows) of the Keppoch sett in Wilsons' colours.

Date: 1906
from W & A K Johnston's 1906 publication which states that it was taken from a piece of tartan dyed and woven by the wife of Alexander XVI of Keppoch who was killed at Culloden. Prince Charles was said to have been given a plaid in this tartan which he left at Moy Hall in his rushed escape from there. It was kept by the MacKintosh's. (STA website).

Also on my "list" (in no paticular order) is your project, the Keppoch sett in D.C. Dalgliesh Reproduction colours (any photos of it by chance?), as well as Clan Donald in Wilsons', Lochaber in Weathered colours (Lochcarron), & Macdonald of Glencoe in the House of Edgar muted colours.

There's others, but these are the main ones

Well my project could either be reproduction/weathered or WOB colours I just want a nice Keppoch kilt that isn't orange.

I really like my Keppoch box pleat in subdued lighting where the green lines really pop against the faded "red" but in general I'm not as fond of red based tartans in the ancient colour scheme.

At first I was like you, regarding the Ancient Red colours. I really wasn't sure how I felt about it. However, once I obtained an actual sample of the tartan my kilt would eventually be made of, it really started to grow on me. I especially like how the green & the blue "pop" in the sunlight. After receiving my Newsome box pleat & wearing it around, I have received nothing but compliments from locals on how beautiful it is. So, in the end, I'm very pleased & have become quite fond of mine!

This is another one that, IMHO, Stewat got wrong, this time by copying an incomplete piece of the so called plaid from Culloden.
