I have arrived...
...in California, that is!! Six days on the road was quite the adventure with three pets, two kids, two vehicles (and one pulling a trailer)...but we're here in Monterey, safe and sound. Signed a lease and moved into our government quarters on Thursday.
As our household goods shipment won't be delivered until the 21st, we're sleeping on air beds/makeshift mattresses still and the only furniture in the house is a card table with chairs and two new desks that my wife and I bought ourselves. Think it might be time to break out the kilt today to introduce my new neighbors to the "real" me!!!
Here's a view of the house that I'm calling "The Mansion on the Hill". It's actually about 250 sq. feet smaller than our last house and has fewer amenities, but after I do some minor customization, it will do!

Welcome home!
Welcome to, well..not so sunny California! Sorry we couldn't arrange for some better weather for your arrival, but it should clear soon.
Nice digs by the way! Is the ocean just over the knoll in the background?
See ya soon,
Brooke

Are you close to DLI? I visited there a couple of summers ago and really liked the area.
I think you left behind the "partridge in a pear tree."

You got out just in time - if you haven't heard, Syracuse has over 66 inches of snow so far (and that count was from a couple of days ago). Not sure what Watertown has

Thanks all...
Brooke...the back of the house faces the north...so the ocean is to the left. Can't quite see it from upstairs in the house...unfortunately.
Piper...yes DLI is right here in town at the Presidio. I'm attending the other military institution here...the Naval Postgraduate School (I'm Army, not Navy...just wanted to clarify that).
Chris...I don't know that I'd say we got out just in time. We got 8-10 inches of snow up at Drum the day they were loading our household goods on the truck. When I cleared Drum, we went to my dad's house near Rochester and got another 2+ feet in about three days time...but we did miss the big storm that came last weekend. We headed west out of Missouri the day the storm started to roll into the Midwest. I had to deal with 40-50mph wind gusts pulling a trailer through Oklahoma...but that was the worst we had to deal with the entire trip...so no complaints here.

Glad you made it safely. My son is making the same trip (almost) in reverse. He's one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children. He and his family are moving from Pendleton to a Naval Air Station in Key West FL. They started out 2 days ago. They're taking a meandering course, visiting with his wife's family in Mississippi and Tennessee, and then coming up to spend Christmas with us before heading to Florida. Most of them anyway. Their son is staying with us. He wants to attend college in this area. Looks like the oldest grandchild will be in residence for awhile. Looking forward to all of it, except the grocery bill.
