I might add that my US Air Force and US Navy kilts are both predominantly blue. I am retired Air Force ( I wear my insignia of rank as a kilt pin) and my brother is ex-Navy. We are both proud of our service and I'll be damned if some idiot is going to tell me what color tartan I can or cannot wear on my kilt. Also my Loch Ness kilt is mainly a very dark blue (almost black).

Well, actually, one of my co-workers wears a variety of tartans with pumps, and frequently below the knee. And, even with the generation gap between me and her, she is rather attractive. (Tartan itself is unisex, it's the kilt that's for guys...)

Many thanks to all of you for the outpouring of responses! I will be ordering my new kilt in the NY City tartan and wearing it proudly. And armed with plenty of information for any of the "experts" out there. BroosterB1, thanks for the poem.

    Pictures to certainly follow.
