We live about an hour north of New York City and got a lot of snow and freezing wind. It was nice to stay warm inside sewing. But my poor husband had to work and on his way home, his car spun around sideways on the snowy road even though he was driving very, very slowly. Thank heavens he wasn't in a crash. We were so glad and relived that he got home safely. A good occasion for a hug and a nice glass of wine.

I just went outside and measured 10" on our back deck here in western North Carolina. All the roads except for the interstate and other four-lanes are impassable without 4x4. The winds are picking up as I type this, so our power will no doubt be gone soon. Our wood stove has been doing yeoman service this past week!

6-8" here in Southern NH.
The wind is pretty bad. It caught me by suprise. I looked out my back door and my stairs only had an inch or two so I thought it wasn't that bad. The snow drifts, however, covered my car. But I was born and raised here in New England so (and I'm sure Tess will concur) this ain't nothin'.

My sister and brother in law got stranded when NY-LGA canceled all in-bound flights and are currently making the drive back to the city in a rental over the past day and a half..

I don't envy you the snow. We only get serious snow here every 3 or 4 years' and then it wouldn't be considered "serious" by most of you all. When it does snow in these parts everything stops. Except the idiots that "think" they know how to drive in it.

I grew up in a little town in New Mexico called Chama. We were maybe 150 ft below tree line there. Winters got bitter! I remember snowshoeing to the grocery store with my parents, and watching National Guardsmen digging us out with collapsible metal shovels. Good times... for a 5 year old kid, anyway! It was all a big game to me- building snowmen and snow forts and skiing everywhere because the roads were impassable. And then there was this beast!

Seeing that as a kid was fun!! I'm so jealous of all you people getting a real winter...

Wow! That is amazing! Is that "beast" really used regularly or was that some sort of "trot out the old equipment" event?

Five minutes after I posted this last night, my squad was called to assist in a car wreck. Black ice on the road and a vehicle went off and into a tree. The driver was instructed to complete a Field Sobriety Test with the Highway Patrol Officer. Rather interesting to watch a person wearing low traction footwear attempting to do the old Heel-to-Toe walk on black ice that even we with various footwear styles were having problems with.
